ABOUT ME
She is an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM). She is a prolific writer, author and publisher; a seasoned administrator and manager who has held several leadership positions in the media in Nigeria. Dr. Ikem is the former Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), the foremost Monotechnic for journalism studies in Nigeria, located in Ogba, Lagos State, Nigeria. She is a woman of many firsts: the first female to head NIJ, and to serve in that capacity for a record period of over 14 years, November 2000 to February 2015; the first female to chair the Editorial Board of the Daily Times of Nigeria; the first female Deputy Director of the Times Journalism Institute, Iganmu, Lagos, Nigeria.; the first female Editor of the Times Home Studies, a defunct publication in the stable of the Daily Times of Nigeria. Furthermore, she is the first female Special Assistant/ Adviser to two former successive Managing Directors of the Daily Times of Nigeria; and the first female to head the Dunamis Publication Department of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), for a record period of 10 years. Ikem was once a lecturer in the Mass Communications Department, University of Lagos, Nigeria. She has enjoyed a fulfilled career life in the media and allied industries for over 30 years. She started her career at the Office of the Head of Nigeria Federal Civil Service, later the Lagos State Schools Management Board among others. She holds a Ph.D. in Language and Communication Arts (1988) from the University of Ibadan and M.A in Language Arts (1983) from the same University. She earned a B.A combined Honours in English/Philosophy (1981) from the University of Lagos. She also holds certificates of several Management courses, seminars and workshops attended within and outside Nigeria, including the Manchester School of Business Studies and the Nigerian Institute of Management. She is a member of several international and national academic and professional bodies. Among others, she is a member of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN); she is a Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), a member of the International Press Institute (IPI), Zurich, and a member of the Lagos Court of Arbitration and the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators. Dr. Ikem is a recipient of several local and international awards, among others: 'The Great Women of the 21st Century' Award, American Biographic Institute Inc. (ABI), Eclipse of the Woman Award, ABI, USA; 'The Distinguished Nigerian Woman Merit ' Award; inclusion in 'Who is Who' in Nigerian Women, and more.
